Below: The youth Opukahaia’s family was killed in tribal warfare, and he fled Hawaii, ending up in New England. There, his whole countenance changed when he became a Christian. His heart to return to Hawaii with the gospel inspired others to be missionaries.
Below: This is the amazing story of Hawaii overturning their law and idolatry just a few months before the missionaries landed.
Below: I also worked on two plaques for this 195th event. One on the Pier told the story of the Plymouth Rock of Hawaii. Loren Cunningham, founder of Youth With A Mission, gave a missions challenge at the dedication.
We had too many challenges to list. Our rowboat suddenly came together, just the afternoon before. The morning of April 11, it rained! But it was clear skies in time.
Through all the hurdles, God prevailed! The next day’s front-page newspaper photo of the boat reminded me God had worked this out, just like our theme: “This is the LORD'S doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.” ~ Psalm 118:23
Your PRAYER partnership is vital. Things really improved for me when a local group started praying specifically for the 195th. I also need sponsors to help me stay in missions! My current monthly partners have been giving $125, so God has provided $4000 above that from random gifts to help me pay rent in 2014. To get the first missionaries to Hawaii, one boy planted a potato patch and gave the earnings. One of my sponsors who sends $20 a month, gave an extra $100 donation that helped greatly. Thank you for any gift!
